Gen. Grant and his generals await the battle of Cold Harbor, which he
later described it "the battle I wish I had never fought". The
Union losses were horrible. These images were part of a stereo pair taken
from a church steeple.  This may well be the first true picture story taken. 
Grant writes orders,  checks a map, a messenger awaits, the horse handlers
watch intently, the battle is about to begin,
one general works on his needle work. 
Is that a news reporter behind Grant?
