Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg 1863 (pass mouse over today to see yesterday)
We arrived in Gettysburg on a rainy, misty day of June 1998.  I searched for as many scenes as I could locate from my photos.  Cemetery Ridge was a high point of the battle, the location for some of the bloodiest actions.  I walked down the slope leading to the ridge.  It was easy to imagine how difficult it would be to fight up that ridge under heavy fire.  Look at the Brady Collection photo taken in 1863.  The flag and decoration on top WERE PENCILED IN!    Wait a bit
for the pictures to load, then place your mouse over the modern picture.  In 1863 the rifle pits
were not filled, there were grave markers as body searches were still happening.
