The Peterhof
Summer Residence
of the Tsars

You are overwhelmed with the gold, the magnificance of the reconstruction.  It all looks new.  There is no tour of Russian housing, but it is apparent that apartment blocks vary from the concrete blockhouse school of architecture, to more modern, but drab blocks.  Of course you find these in Chicago too.  We are not allowed to be too close, but a good observer may see many things other than gold leaf.

Peter the Great designed Peterhof to rival Versailles of France.  It was looted and destroyed by the Nazi troops.  The Peterhof now looks completely new, and beautiful.  Most of the art treasures had been saved by the Russians, and returned after the war.
The gold and gardens are fantastic and far outdo the French.
