The Kiel Canal connects the North Sea to the Baltic and crosses areas formerly of East Germany. Thousands of Germans, young and old lined the 8-hour route, waving American and Norwegian flags. They remember and appreciate! We will not forget the young men in a car paralleling our route, and waving a huge American Flag. The excellent German band played us into the first lock, then came on board for the trip. It was exciting to hear the music reflecting from shore. The Norwegian Dream has a folding funnel and mast system making it the largest liner to transit the canal. The trip took us deep across Germany, ready for tours to Berlin and to Moscow. We elected to take the Berlin tour. |
