Berlin
"We then knew it was
possible we would live"

A high speed train to Berlin.  Our guide had been a young
boy during the Berlin airlift.  He said "until your President
Kennedy appeared and made the famous speech, we
did not believe that we would live."
The Berlin wall, Check Point Charlie, and the death and
dreary nature of the cold war could still be felt.  However,
it was amazing to see the amount of new construction
underway, especially in the old East Berlin.
If you look here and there, signs of war are still evident.
The souvenir sellers are loaded with fake Russian
military caps, badges and equipment.  It looks like the
Russian army for sale.  You feel the echo of the old,
and the thunder of the new in Berlin.

All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner".
