Cruising on the Yukon river, miles of  rocks, nameless mountains, valleys and streams roll by.  The size and distances overwhelm.  How could the gold rushers make it via raft, dog sled, or foot?  Dawson is the gateway to the rich strike.
Many perished.  Few saw any gold.

We saw the miles of destroyed valley from the now abandoned gold dredges.
