Going by bus is the best way to see so much.  Up early, down narrow roads with deep valleys (no guardrails), no towns, no markers, no stop lights.  Huge, sugar rich hot rolls by Susan Wiren in Chicken, a former gold camp.  (the miners could not spell Ptarmigan, so they called it Chicken)
"Hard Rock" cafe for box lunches (found a rock with gold in it), I was a honorary Judge in Eagle.  A bus lets you view the reality of Alaska
